Mauve Fougère brings together Zeneli Codel (violin, vocals, foot percussion) and Claude Hurtubise (accordion, piano, vocals). The duo presents original neo-traditional Québécois compositions with jazz, world, and progressive arrangements. Rooted in traditional aesthetics, their music breathes new life into the genre through contemporary arrangements and lyrics.

In a scene long shaped by male voices, Mauve Fougère seeks to offer a different perspective on Québécois trad music. By creating an original repertoire from a feminine viewpoint, they help reshape its history and affirm that art is political.

In 2023, the duo received a grant from the Fonds patrimonial for a series of outdoor concerts in the Laurentians, followed in 2024 by a grant from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ) to compose and record their first EP, Conifères mélomanes. That same year, they performed in Europe, and in the summer of 2025, they embarked on a 14-show tour across Quebec.

Accessible and unifying, their live show presents a vibrant and engaged vision of trad music, inviting both intimate listening and festive moments.

Bios

Claude Hurtubise is an adventurous musician whose work is shaped by travel and human encounters. Trained in jazz piano at the Université de Montréal, she has performed across the Americas, Europe, and Africa, always accompanied by her accordion. She plays for diverse audiences, explores a wide range of musical styles, and collaborates with artists from many backgrounds.

She co-leads the neo-traditional duo Mauve Fougère and is involved in transatlantic collaborations on both sides of the ocean. An active educator, she leads concert-workshops with Jeunesses Musicales Canada, conducts choirs, and has taught piano in various schools.

In 2018, she released her first EP, Claude et sa bande sonore, followed in 2022 by her debut full-length album, Suivre les lucioles, supported by the Canada Council for the Arts. The accompanying live show toured extensively in Quebec and internationally. She is currently working on a new album expected in 2027.

Zeneli Codel began her musical journey with classical violin and later pursued training in jazz. This led to a deep passion for traditional Québécois and world music, through which she became involved in a wide range of projects. She has also developed strong skills as a percussionist, singer, and guitarist.

Her thirst for adventure led her to join Cyclown, an independent and socially engaged collective, with whom she traveled by bicycle from France to China and recorded two albums. She has performed with artists such as Gypsy Kumbia Orchestra, Thomas Hellman, Claude L’Anthrope, Géraldine Éguiluz, and Anarchette. She has produced and self-released two albums for Anarchette and Les Mains Tendres, as well as an EP with Mauve Fougère.

Since 2015, she has collaborated with the collective Les Belles Bêtes as a musician on stilts. Through multidisciplinary projects such as Incarnations Transitoires, Puzzle Théâtre, Sage et Singe, and Cirque de la Pointe Sèche, she continues her artistic research as a composer, performer, and interpreter, incorporating contemporary dance and physical theatre.
